Francis Bacon - British (1909-1992)

Francis Bacon , British  painter and printmaker, was one of the most powerful and original figure painters in twentieth century and best known for his unsettling and often grotesque imagery.     A consistent theme of his work was the isolation and pain of the individual with a single figure (usually male) seated or standing in a small interior.  His subjects were usually artists, friends, lovers and himself.
