Basil Blackshaw is an Irish painter, born in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1932. He attended Methodist College Belfast and went on to study at The Belfast College of Art . In 1951 he was awarded a scholarship to study in Paris. Since then he has mainly worked in Co. Antrim. He is highly regarded for his loose application of paint and a very distinctive use of colour. His themes are often rural including greyhounds, Irish travellers and the landscape.
